Weekly Wellbeing Events Schedule

Spending time relaxing and connecting with fellow students is an investment in your wellbeing. There are wellbeing events taking place across our campuses every day of the week.

Take some time out from your studies and join us at one of our weekly wellbeing events!

Monday

Every weekday during semesters, the Academic English Programme (AEP) runs their free ‘Ask the Academic English Team’ service in the Global Study Lounge. 

Between 13:00-14:00 on Monday-Friday, you can talk to an Academic English tutor about Academic English, language skills, and assessment and writing styles.

Come along to the chaplaincy 13:00 – 14:00 on Monday’s to enjoy a delicious homemade soup in a welcoming environment. Donations of £2.50 to the Mary’s Meals Charity. 

Sport In Mind are a charity uniting people in sport and physical activity to improve the lives of those experiencing mental health problems.  Sport In Mind sessions take place every week, all year around and are free to attend.

Tuesday

Come along to the new 'Reading Uni Run Talk Run' running club hosted every Tuesday during semester time, meeting at 6pm, with a 6.15pm start.

Location: Sports Park, Shinfield Road, Reading. What 3 words, damage.lonely.dine. 

Run Talk Run is a mental health running group, the runs are always 5k, at the same time, same place, same route each week. It’s free to attend and for all abilities. It’s run as slow as the slowest runner.

Every other Tuesday, 16:00-18:00, during semester time at Reading Students’ Union. Join Reading Students’ Union’s Welfare Officer, Sarah, for a relaxing afternoon of creativity and community. Tuesday events offer a variety of fun and engaging activities, from painting to crafting and more. Come unwind, have fun, and connect with fellow students. Free to join but please to ensure there are enough materials for everyone. 
Come along to the Chaplaincy 12:00-14:00 for an informal event aimed at international students who would like to practice their English.

Wednesday

Led by your LGBTQIA+ chaplain, this is a chance for trans students to meet up over coffee and cake.

Venue: The Students' Union Lounge room 2, Reading Students' Union

These year-round award-winning cafés are open to all students. Join every other Wednesday, 13:00-14:00, to meet students from across the University, practice or help others with conversational English, learn about different cultures and perspectives, or simply have a break from your studies and chat! Free tea, coffee, and biscuits provided. 

You can join us in-person in the Global Study Lounge, Edith Morley Building, Room 230, (just turn up - no pre-booking required), or  to meet students from Reading's branch campuses and partner institutions! UK-based students can use their participation towards one of the RED awards.

Join us every Wednesday during semester time for a free Life Tools talk to support your wellbeing at university.

The Life Tools programme is a series of free talks designed by experts to help you transition into university life and enhance your student experience. The programme allows you to be proactive and take control of your learning, personal and professional development. You can join the talk online or in person. Head to the Life Tools page on Essentials for the upcoming schedule and topics.

We have regular Dr Bike sessions on campus where a mechanic will check and fix your bicycle for free, charging only for any parts that might be needed. To keep your bike in top condition come along to one of our regular Dr Bike sessions.

The sessions will take place every Wednesday in the Palmer Quad, 12:00 - 14:00, during semester time. We are usually located in the area directly outside the Palmer Building or centre of the quad.

Thursday

Take a break from studying and come chill with Buddy Up and your new friends! The weekly student hangout is a meet-up of a small group of students in a safe and friendly setting. If large groups and loud spaces aren't your thing, then this is perfect for you! At the hangout you can play games, simply chat, or bring your laptops if you just want some company while getting stuff done! Hangouts are come and go as you please, so if you can't stay the whole time or can't make it on time, it's fine!

Run by Mildred Burchett-Vass from the School of Arts and Communication Design, all staff and students are invited to join her to learn how to knit and crochet. You can learn a new skill, collaborate on a crafting project, or simply chat and meet new people. All abilities welcome, whether you're an expert knitter / crocheter, or a complete beginner. 

All materials provided and its completely free to take part!

Thursdays at the Chaplaincy, 10:30-12:00. The Newcomers Group exists to welcome family members - both UK and international - of those studying and working at the 色狗导航. A friendly and welcoming group of British volunteers and "newcomers". Children are welcome and toys and books for children are available. The Newcomers group meets every Thursday morning in university semester-time. Free tea, coffee are free and biscuits. Open to all, please email w.newcomers-group@reading.ac.uk for more information.

Friday

Learn to make bread at the chaplaincy. Fridays 10:30am and 11:30am. £2 a session, to book your place email the Chaplaincy (chaplaincy@reading.ac.uk).
17:00 - 19:00 on Fridays. Drop by for some socialising over tea and cake, followed by a 20 minute candle-light night prayer (on 21 February and 14 March Shabbat Prayers).

Our Friday Get-Togethers take place every 2 weeks during Semesters 1 and 2. They take place 15:00 – 17:00 in the Global Study Lounge, Edith Morley Building, 2nd Floor. They are informal so you can drop-in and take part in a variety of different activities and meet new people! Relax and unwind before the weekend. Activities include, but aren’t limited to, crafting, origami, mindfulness colouring, Zine-making, quizzing and board gaming.

Aged between 18 and 31 and struggling with your mental health? Join us in a laid-back, open space where you can grab a hot drink and relax.

Whether you're looking for a chat, to share hobbies, or just to listen, the Chill and Chat Café is the place to connect. Being supportive and judgement free there's no pressure, just good vibes and real conversations!

Saturday

If you are a student living in halls, come along to a Halls event, taking place every Saturday 14:00 - 16:00. These events are run by your Hall Warden team and offer free food and drink and crafting activities for you to enjoy. 

Previous events include creating room decorations, water bottle painting, clay modelling, ceramic heart painting and needle felting. To find out more about the programme of upcoming events, check out the Home at Halls app.

Join the Reading Board Games Society for an afternoon of fun and meeting new people! They are a welcoming group and you do not need to bring any games with you (don't worry, we have loads for you to play). You also don't need any board game experience either; just come with an open mind and looking to have fun! This event is free, just turn up!

Student Life Events are free no-alcohol social events hosted throughout the year! Meet new people, enjoy board games, crafting and snacks.
