Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience)

Role

Professor Daniel Grant works with the Pro-Vice-Chancellors (Education and Student Experience) to provide leadership for education and the student experience across the University.

As a member of the senior Teaching and Learning executive team, Daniel is responsible for:

  • providing inspirational leadership for the University’s Teaching and Learning community
  • providing leadership, supporting and overseeing teaching, learning and the student experience (in collaboration with the relevant School Directors of Teaching and Learning (SDTL) and the School Directors of Academic Tutoring (SDAT) within the cluster of schools he represents
  • developing, leading and driving forward the University’s strategic priorities in Teaching and Learning, aligned to the overall University Strategy, within his school clusters
  • securing enhancements in Teaching Excellence and the student experience through data-driven school and institutional improvements.

Daniel is also the Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) working with the School of Biological Sciences, School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy, and School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences.

Biography

Dan is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Education in the School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy (SCFP).

He joined the É«¹·µ¼º½ as a Teacher Practitioner Pharmacist in 2006, in a joint post with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH). Prior to this, he had worked as a clinical pharmacist for 6 years and he continues to maintain his registration as a pharmacist. Dan was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2015 and has held roles including School Director of Teaching & Learning, Pharmacy Director of Teaching & Learning, Lead Pharmacist – Teacher Practitioner, and Programme Director for the MPharm Programme. He was responsible for setting up an Academic Practice Unit between the School of Pharmacy and OUH, which has provided pharmacy students with the opportunity to undertake research projects within the Trust and helped to foster collaborative research between pharmacy academics at the University and clinical pharmacists at the Trust.

Dan is experienced in the development, quality assurance and accreditation of externally regulated programmes. He worked as a standard setter for the General Pharmaceutical Council’s (GPhC) Registration Assessment between 2015 and 2022 and, since then, as a member of their Board of Assessors.  In 2020, Daniel also joined the GPhC’s Accreditation Team for undergraduate pharmacy programmes and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Assessment Regulatory Committee.

Daniel is a University Teaching Fellow and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

He graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Bath in 1999 and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy from the same university in 2003. He is currently undertaking a professional doctorate in education with the Institute of Education at Reading.

Daniel started his six-year term as a Teaching and Learning Dean in August 2021. Dan became Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) on 1 August 2024.
