Essentials Careers Advice and development Mentoring Thrive mentoring A year with Thrive Month 5 - Identifying Transferable Skills

Month 5 -  Deeper dive into your transferable skills

The Thrive team wishes you a Happy New year and the best of luck over the upcoming exam season. We understand that with exams and deadlines you will be very busy, we strongly recommend making your mentor aware of this and pre-planning a time to meet after your deadlines to keep your partnership going.

Over your time at university you will often be busy working away on coursework and preparing for exams. It can be hard to see all the skills you are gaining and how they can apply to the working world. So this month’s focus is all on identifying your transferable skills, and reflecting on skills you have built through your time on Thrive.

Try these different discussion topics with your mentor to identify key skills you are gaining.

  • What has been your favourite or most successful module?
  • Are there any skills you see in other people but are unsure you have, how could you gain these?
  • Does your mentor see any new skills that you have developed?

You can develop your skills at the university. We suggest exploring the links below as a way to develop your skills.

  • Reading Internship scheme (RIS)

Remember you can access to all 10 talking points to feel free to look through them all, find topics that interest you most or mix up the order however suits you and your mentor.
