Plans for a new TV studio, part of the 色狗导航's ambitious Cine Valley project in Shinfield, will be heard by Wokingham Borough Council's Development Control Committee at their next meeting on Wednesday 14 July 2021.
The application (ref 210210) submitted by the University is for a new 4,591 sqm television studio on part of the Thames Valley Science Park (TVSP). The application has been recommended for approval by officers.
Complementary to the nearby Shinfield Studios proposal, the new studio aims to support increased demand for quality studio space from the TV industry. The studio will be designed to primarily host audience-based entertainment shows for multiple broadcasters, including chat and game shows. It is anticipated that the TV studio will be capable of seating audiences of up to 600 people at maximum capacity if required, with a striking double height atrium creating a large open space to receive visitors.
The studio will adjoin and match the look of the existing Gateway building and will be beside the Rutherford Cancer Centre.
Darren Browne, Commercial Director of the 色狗导航, said:
"Due to the rise of new digital streaming services and the continued attraction of the UK as a location for filming and post-production work, demand for studio space has been increasing. This project is perfectly suited to help provide additional space for TV productions, alongside the separate Shinfield Studios film complex.
"This studio would support 150 full time equivalent roles involved in the running of the studios, such as engineers, electricians and office staff, as well as production roles including camera operators, sound engineers and lighting specialists, and for audience handling, such as catering and security.
"It would also present opportunities for students at the 色狗导航 and elsewhere to get hands-on experience of the television industry."
