A 色狗导航 Professor has been recognised for her contributions to urban meteorology research.
The Council of the European Meteorological Society has selected Professor Susan Grimmond as the recipient of the EMS Silver Medal 2024.
This award recognises Professor Grimmond’s exceptional scientific and academic career, which has seen her publish more than 250 peer-reviewed studies mostly focusing on urban meteorology. Professor Grimmond pioneered the modelling and observing of the urban environment, particularly focusing on the exchange of heat, moisture and momentum between urban surfaces and the overlying atmosphere. She made original and important contributions to the science of urban meteorology at both national and global level.
Professor Grimmond, Professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science at the 色狗导航 and a past Met Office Joint Chair, said: "I would like to thank the EMS and those who nominated me for this wonderful and very unexpected award. I would like to recognise the many people I have worked with - students, postdocs, technicians, fellow research colleagues and all the support staff - at many institutions in Europe and beyond. Our collaborations have been both stimulating and fun, I would not be receiving this without them. I also thank the EMS for recognising urban meteorology.”
The EMS Silver Medal was established in 2008 to highlight distinguished contributions to the development of meteorology in Europe. The Silver Medal ceremony will be held during the Annual Meeting of the EMS in Barcelona, Spain, 2 – 6 September 2024.
